Celebrating World Volunteer Day

The Bôndy Green Army recently celebrated International Volunteer Day with an exceptional workshop in Angavokely.

The Bôndy Green Army celebrated the International Volunteer Day through an exceptional workshop in Angavokely, from Friday 6 to Sunday 8 December. This event, organized in partnership with the National Center for Training in Forest Techniques (CNFTF) under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, was a true celebration of the commitment to the environment and of Malagasy youth.

A moment of learning and inspiring exchanges

Among the highlights of the workshop, the exchange of knowledge with CNFTF learners occupied a central place. These forest experts shared valuable knowledge about forest fire fighting techniques, as well as their organizational strategies in the field. Their harrowing testimonies highlighted the need for a collective approach to address the critical challenges of fires and deforestation, major threats to biodiversity and ecosystems in Madagascar. Their dedication, at the forefront of these battles, is a true source of inspiration, reminding us that every contribution, no matter how small, can make a significant difference. This exemplary commitment encourages us to redouble our efforts and to strengthen our own initiatives in favor of the environment. This partnership with the CNFTF represents only the beginning of a promising collaboration. Together, a series of ambitious initiatives will be launched in 2025, aimed at raising awareness, training and actively involving young people. Immersed in the heart of nature, the members of the Bôndy Green Army finalized the 2025 Annual Work Plan, a key step in strengthening collective efforts and effectively structuring future actions.

Immersion in the heart of nature

The weekend ended with an immersive hike on the Angavokely Mountains, followed by a walk to National Road No. 2. This moment allowed members of the Green Army to strengthen their connection with nature while learning about the lives of the surrounding communities. This immersion also offered a realistic perspective on local environmental challenges and better preparation for field work. The fundamental values of the Bôndy Green Army — A.I.M.E (Audacy/Belonging, Innovation, Activism and Environment) were at the heart of the activities. Strategic games such as Loup-Garou and Undercover helped develop leadership skills and collaboration between members, while promoting moments of fun and complicity. These moments strengthened team spirit, which is essential for carrying out large-scale projects.

Recognition of committed young people

To celebrate and encourage the involvement of young volunteers, ten certificates were awarded to the most deserving members of the year 2024. This symbolic gesture not only motivated the participants, but also emphasized the importance of recognizing individual efforts in a common project. This weekend was more than just a celebration. It strengthened the collective determination to regrow Madagascar and to build a sustainable future. As an “Army of Change”, the commitment remains strong to raise awareness, take action and encourage others to join this essential movement.
