The development of the tourism sector is closely linked to the conservation of biodiversity. Reason why, the FHORM (Fédération des Hôteliers et des Restaurateurs de Madagascar) has just signed a partnership with the social enterprise Bôndy for the reforestation of Madagascar, despite the difficult economic problem facing its members in this period of health crisis. This partnership thus aims to plant at least 1,110 trees on a total area of 1 Ha in three regions, namely Analamanga, Atsinanana and Boeny in collaboration with partner farmers in Bôndy.

Direct beneficiaries. This social enterprise specializes in reforestation focused on the planting of trees that can be useful to local communities in order to contribute to sustainable development. As an illustration, trees for energy wood and fruit trees will be planted respectively in Analamanga and Atsinanana while mangrove seedlings will be put on the ground in the town of Maromiandra in Mahajanga, in the Boeny region. ” Local communities will be the direct beneficiaries of this reforestation. They are working with us to carry out the project. This will allow them, among other things, to improve their sources of income through fruit harvesting and fishing activities. In the meantime, we are committed to finding markets for their products. ”, explained Max Fontaine, the founder of the Bôndy company. Indeed, mangroves will serve as a habitat and promote the reproduction of fishery resources.

You should know that Bôndy is in charge of monitoring the reforestation project so that there are concrete impacts on the lives of partner farmers. “Our members are quite positive about the renewal of this initiative in the next reforestation campaign, despite the current difficult situation, which could continue next year, or even until 2023,” said Johanne Pless, the president of the Federation of Hoteliers and Restaurateurs of Madagascar.
