Installation of solar street lights in Melaky

Bôndy has launched an ambitious solar lighting project in Melaky, aimed at transforming the daily lives of local communities through “sustainable solar energy”.

A project focused on solar energy for the Melaky region

The program Ma Honko, led by Bôndy and in collaboration with the local community, is a large-scale project that aims to install 25 solar street lights in remote villages in Melaky, especially in Amboanio, Ankorovahina, Tsiamandira, and Beninz. This project is not limited to the installation of street lamps; it is designed to strengthen the autonomy of local communities while protecting the environment through campaigns of reforestation and the promotion of agroforestry.

The solar street lights were distributed as follows: 10 in Amboanio, 11 in Ankorovahina, 3 in Tsiamandira, and 1 in Beninz. In addition to these installations, five other streetlights were donated to the mayor of Bebaboky Sud, extending the benefits of solar lighting to a larger area. In addition to improve safety and the daily lives of residents, this initiative is part of reforestation campaigns aimed at restoring local ecosystems and promoting a regenerative and sustainable agriculture.

In parallel, Bôndy is implementing projects of reforestation of fruit trees and agroforestry, contributing to the restoration of ecosystems while generating sustainable incomes for the inhabitants. These efforts are part of an integrated approach that combines regenerative agriculture with practices of environmental protection, aimed at improving the quality of life and strengthening the resilience of communities in the face of environmental challenges.

Installing solar street lights: technical and logistical challenges

The installation of solar street lights in Melaky was a major challenge due to several technical and logistical obstacles. These challenges include shortages of materials such as sand and grit, the use of non-galvanized decks, and safety issues faced by workers in the field. To overcome these difficulties, temporary solutions such as applying anti-rust paint have been employed. However, these challenges highlight the need to choose more sustainable materials in the future, such as galvanized steel, to ensure the sustainability of installations.

The Bôndy team is also considering using anchor bolts to improve the stability of the installations and simplify their maintenance. These adjustments are essential to ensure the long-term success of the project and to minimize associated risks. Rigorous management of these technical aspects is crucial to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of solar street lights in  difficult environmental conditions.

A concrete impact on local communities

The impact of the project on the local communities of Melaky is already tangible and significant. Thanks to the installation of solar street lights, village streets are now better lit,  increasing the safety of residents and facilitating night -time travel. This solar lighting project also has a positive impact on the social and economic life of the villages. By allowing businesses to stay open longer, it stimulates the local economy and improves the living conditions of residents.

In addition, Bôndy works closely with local communities to develop projects of reforestation of fruit trees and agroforestry. These initiatives promote ecosystem restoration while generating sustainable incomes for the inhabitants. This holistic approach, which combines renewable energy and responsible management of natural resources, shows how it is possible to promote a sustainable development while strengthening the economic autonomy of local communities.

Towards sustainable and inclusive development

The solar street lamp project in Melaky is part of a wider approach of environmental protection and the reduction of carbon emissions. Bôndy is also exploring innovative financing mechanisms such as the carbon market in Madagascar, which makes it possible to generate carbon credits thanks to the practices of reforestation and sustainable agriculture. By capturing and storing carbon, these initiatives contribute to the fight against climate change while providing economic opportunities for rural communities.

The carbon credits generated by these activities of reforestation and agroforestry reinforce the attractiveness of sustainable development projects and also provide financial support to local communities, allowing them to adopt more environmentally friendly agricultural practices while benefiting from additional income. This approach contributes to soil regeneration, improves water quality, and promotes biodiversity, all essential for a sustainable development.

This model of sustainable development, based on the active participation of local communities and the integration of renewable energy solutions, strengthens the resilience of territories in the face of environmental and economic challenges. Bôndy demonstrates how an integrated approach, combining solar energy, reforestation, and regenerative agriculture, can create positive and positive impacts for local communities.

An inspiring model for other communities

The success of the project of solar street lights in Melaky is an inspiring example of how renewable energies can be used to improve the quality of life in rural areas while promoting environmental protection. By combining innovation, community engagement, and sustainable practices, Bôndy offers a model that could serve as a reference for other regions of Madagascar and beyond.

Bôndy's initiative shows that by combining projects from reforestation, agroforestry, and solar energy, it is possible to promote a brighter, greener, and safer future for local communities. Through this project, Melaky is looking to a future where sustainability and prosperity go hand in hand, offering a concrete example of sustainable development for other similar initiatives across the country.
