Tamatave, R&D center

Adapting farmers' practices to climate change, thanks to the CAAT research center, founded on the basis of international research partnerships.
Regarding
Tamatave faces a number of significant environmental and social challenges. Its port is used for the export of cash products, namely: vanilla, coffee and other fruits and spices such as cinnamon or clove.

Slash-and-burn farming, the main cause of deforestation

Why choosing Tamatave?

Today, because of the fluctuation of commodity prices and the vagaries of the weather, crops are difficult to make profitable for producers. Farmers who have only learned to grow this have a hard time separating themselves from these crops.

Our actions in the field

We are developing concrete solutions to accelerate the adaptation to climate change and the agricultural transition of family farms in Madagascar. The launch of the CAAT research center (Climate Adaptation & Agricultural transition), founded on the basis of international research partnerships, makes it possible to develop solutions based on and inspired by low-tech approaches and models of the circular and solidarity economy.

Testimony

There is a lot of bushfire in Region I [...] In 30 years, I have seen the environment changed in an alarming way. The rains are no longer the same and there are a lot more cyclones than before.
